New Shows, New Concepts, New Artists!

October 1st and 2nd

Penny Walter, the hardest working woman in show business, is going to kick off the season with an adult puppet show that will have you laughing and crying and singing along.

Combining her 2009 solo show, "With My Own Two Hands" and her 2010 performance, "Out Of The Box," Penny will take us on an autobiographical journey into the wacky world of a professional puppeteer.

It’s a world filled with strange and wonderful characters, like George, her curmudgeonly father; Val, her super-sweet mom; and Nikki, her rowdy college roommate (“Dude!!!”).

This is going to be more fun than a person really ought to have in one night. One weekend only ---- don't miss it!

Come beat the Devil with PST!

October is Literary Month, so PST's gonna get all literary on you! In a bit of a departure from our trademark brand of true, personal stories, PST is proud to join forces with Jonah Weston and Action Talks Productions to present a pair of great literary works for your autumnal listening pleasure: Stephen Vincent Benet's "The Devil and Daniel Webster" and Shel Silverstein's epic poem for adults, "The Devil and Billy Markham."

What will we call this diabolical double-feature? Devilishly Good of course!! Jonah has been receiving rave reviews for his virtuoso rendition of Billy Markham since he premiered it at Fertile Ground last winter. PST's Lawrence Howard wowed the Oregon Trial Lawyers with Daniel Webster at their annual convention a few years back. October 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd.

Also in October on Halloween weekend, Portland Story Theater will once again present “Terrifying Tales” at the beautiful, historic and haunted John Palmer House. This will be a joint fundraiser for Portland Story Theater and Nest Share, a non-profit organization providing rooms for out-of-town cancer patients receiving medical treatment in Portland.

Only 50 tickets will be issued for this very special event; small groups of listeners will go from room to room until they have heard all the stories and seen the whole house.

You know what happens in January: The Armchair Adventurer returns! Following on the heels of "Shackleton's Antarctic Nightmare" and Mawson's Mettle," PST's Lawrence Howard is hard at work on the research for another epic tale of heroism and hardship in the frozen south.

"Polar Opposites: Amundsen, Scott, and the Race For The Pole" recounts heroic and tragic events in Antarctica one hundred years ago. Scott and his four companions fought their way to the Pole only to find the Norwegian flag flying there: Amundsen had beaten him by five weeks. Crushed by disappointment, utterly exhausted and short on food and fuel, Scott and his companions froze and starved to death on the return journey, just eleven miles from a huge cache of provisions and supplies.

This a tale of the agony and the ecstasy, of accomplishment and failure, of a glorious victory overshadowed by an even more glorious defeat.

Love is fire, but will it warm your heart or burn your house down? Portland Story Theater's Valentine’s Show is always the hottest date in town, with wine, chocolate, and true stories of love in all its mystifying complexity.

Lynne and Lawrence plan to bring back some of your favorite guest artists for a fast-paced evening of heart-warming, heart-wrenching and hilarious stories about all the facets of love including the dreamy, the mystical, and the scandalous!

Portland Story Theater’s Solo Performance Festival, Singlehandedly, will rock the City of Roses for the third year in a row. Look for some new faces, along with your PST favorites, as each artist singlehandedly holds the stage and creates a universe of words.
