Live Storytelling Shows

Portland Story Theater offers something unique: storytelling as performance. People telling stories drawn from real-life experiences.

Our season kicks off in September with the wildly popular Urban Tellers™, a new breed of literary event. Urban Tellers™ is the showcase of personal stories crafted in our workshop, The Art of Personal Narrative. "What a delightful evening. Wonderful, stories of personal challenge and triumph," said one audience member. "Loved the storytellers, the atmosphere, the whole idea."

And this year, we're adding a new series, Bridges, modeled after Urban Tellers™ that focuses on Social Justice issues. Bridges will close the gap between "Us" and "Them" with personal stories that will help people recognize that there is NO "Them," ONLY "Us."

We're also launching a new solo series patterned after the celebrated Singlehandely solo festival. In its new form, Singlehandedly will happen three times a year with feature-length solo shows created collaboratively with local, national, and international talent.

2014 marks the 100th anniversary of Sir Ernest Shackleton's historic ill-fated expedition to Antartica. We're excited that this January, Lawrence Howard is bringing back Shackleton's Antarctic Nightmare.

And we're thrilled to continue our Valentine's tradition. Kiss & Tell is always a Valentine's date to remember, with wine, chocolate, and stories of real love and romance woven together in a funny, sexy evening of story theater at one of Portland's landmarks, The Alberta Rose.
