Solo Performance Festival: Singlehandedly

Portland Story Theater rocks the city with a kaleidoscope of true stories

In its most ambitious production since the group was formed in 2003, Portland Story Theater unleashes a spoken word extravaganza, its first Solo Performance Festival: Singlehandedly. "This festival only points to the continuing strength of story in the lives of our amazing community," said Lynne Duddy, Executive Producer and Co-Founder of Portland Story Theater. "With performers this dedicated and passionate about the power of story, I have every confidence that Singlehandedly will transform people's idea of what storytelling can deliver. I'm blown away by the incredible audiences and the level of talent that PST attracts."

A pioneer in what has now become one of the hottest trends -- storytelling -- Portland Story Theater is proud to present a fantastic lineup for Singlehandedly: Sharon Knorr reprises her popular one-woman show, Why Can’t I Marry The Cute Beatle? Storyteller and PST Co-Founder Lawrence Howard of Shackleton fame stitches three coming-of-age tales in The Adventures of Huckleberry Howard. Monologist Rick Huddle performs Spent, a quirky solo piece about the current economic crisis. Veteran Portland storyteller Will Hornyak splices classic Hungarian myth with personal tales in The Myth of the White Stag: The Hunt for Identity and Place. Improv artist Brad Fortier shares Glory Hole-llelujah, one gay man's travail through the lands of easy anonymous sex to the deeper sea of new-found love. Puppeteer and Storyteller Penny Walter brings us With My Own Two Hands, a montage of characters that weave together life's good, bad, and funny moments. In Burning Feathers, solo performance artist Antonio Sacre, from LA, blends personal narrative, ancient myth, and modern verse into a blisteringly funny and moving exploration of love and its aftermath.

Since its inception in 2003, Portland Story Theater's mission is to create engaging, true, personal stories for adult audiences, making live theater accessible and affordable to the urban community. We believe that all performers are essentially storytellers, and this art form demands the participation of the audience. With no barrier between them, the teller and the listener create an authentic story together.
