Recipe for an extraordinary evening of entertainment:

Take six ordinary people. One strategist, one improv artist, one psychiatric nurse, one artist, one nonprofit director, one blacksmith. Stir to combine. Add four weeks of workshop sessions. Discover, craft, and shape personal stories. Add plot, conflict, resolution. Let rise. Incoprporate feedback and collaboration. Let rise again. Gently fold in transformation. Sprinkle with laughter, feeling, meaning and authenticity. Let rise one more time. Turn out onto the Portland Story Theater stage at Hipbone Studio. Add snacks, libations and audience. Serve stories face-to-face, eye-to-eye, and heart-to-heart. Enjoy.

Each night features new storytellers sharing their original short stories. The stories are personal, taken from the tellers' own lives and told in the oral tradition -- no scripts, no notes. These tellers have gone through Portland Story Theater's personal narrative workshop series to learn how to discover, develop, craft and deliver their stories.

Storytelling is simple, straightforward, unadorned. No set, no complex lighting plot, no period costumes, no soundtrack -- just the teller and the listeners, connecting. Very interactive. Human. Meaningful. Real.
